About Me

My name is Katie Hamer. I live in Gledhow with my two elderly ginger toms, Bruce and Tiger, and Eric the Springerdoodle.

As a child I grew up with all sorts of pets; cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils, fish and even stick insects. We also had a super Irish Setter. I loved horses too and learnt to ride at a young age. A school questionnaire at 15 showed my ideal career to be in animal care or social work so I became a teacher!! I worked for over 20 years in primary schools in London, Manchester and Leeds, spending the final 8 years as a deputy head. Then I made a life-changing decision and got a dog!

Eric spent much of his early life in doggy day care. I went to work and he spent his day having fun with other dogs. During term-time my job continued into the evenings and at weekends and I missed the time we spent together in the school holidays. I had become disheartened with the constant changes and demands in the education system so after 24 years in the profession I knew the time was right for a new challenge and a better work-life balance.  I decided to set up my own pet care business to help look after other people’s animals. I now spend my days joining Eric and his friends outside striding through wonderful parks, woods, fields and dales.

As a pet-owner I completely understand the dilemmas you face, going to work or on holiday. My cats would much rather stay at home whilst I’m away, in their own surroundings enjoying the freedom and comfort they’re used to.  The joys of owning a dog are countless, but it is a responsibility which often causes owners to feel guilty and I am delighted to be able to alleviate these. Knowing that your best friend is enjoying a great walk, socialising and being cared for whilst you’re at work is a huge reassurance.  I post photos online and leave a note in a daily diary for you so that you feel part of his or her day too.

Your dog will have a fantastic time and return home exhausted, giving you that piece of mind. In fact, like me, you’ll probably want to join them!
